Buen Provecha

Right after Amy left we had a rat problem in our room so we decided to let the cat come inside. She just had kittens though so they had to come along as well. She kept bringing her kittens up to Amy´s bed though to sleep so we named her Amy. The kittens are Cheerio and Lucy. The mice are all gone now though :)

Ccatán has become a salon. We gave Phillipe a mohawk and Grace dreads. The dreads didn´t last though.

THANKS MOMMY!! We got a package of peanut butter and Tillamuk sharp cheddar... perfect.

A couple of weeks ago a group came to the orphanage to spend time with the kids and to do another project. A small village near us called Tuson got wiped out by the floods a few months ago. The groups plan was to install pipes so the village would have running water. However they decided it would be better to teach the indigenous women how to make bracelets for like 5 hours. Grace and I were pretty upset because we wanted to help install the pipes, but thats how things go sometimes when NGO´s think they know whats best for the people here.

About 30 Peruvians were working on installing the pipes while we made the bracelets.
The government is funding to rebuild the houses that were wiped out in Tuson. They´re made of clay bricks and most of the houses are only about 50 square feet: kitchen, bedroom, and living room all in one. As for the bathroom... well thats one reason the water is contaminated here.

Some guinea pigs running around one of the houses.

This is Eli and Phillipe playing our favorite Peruvian game Cachito. I´m bring it back to the states!
And of course... we had to bring beer pong to Ccatán.

Donde esta la cabeza de Toby?

Last Sunday on August 15th, Grace, Phillipe, and I went rock climbing up to a zipline. We had to climb about 1200 feet to get to the zipline and it took a couple hours. Luckily the rock wall had staples so it wasn´t as tiring. Totally worth it!

We had to cross a bridge made of a couple wires.

The zip line!

We decided to treat ourselves by going to a bar at a really nice hotel and getting all dressed up.

Prefunking with red wine from a milk carton... this is how we do it.

The hotel!

The kids have been on winter vacation for a couple weeks so we´ve had a lot of free time. We went to the Pisac Ruins for Amy´s last day in Peru.

The Urubamba River.

More photos of the orphanage. At the bottom right is Dahlia, the mother of the orphanage.

The boys dancing and working.

Me with Margot and Ebolin.

Smores night! No graham crackers or unflavored marshmallows in Peru but we made due.

A day in Cusco with my besties Grace and Phillipe. We went to an annual culinary festival with traditional Peruvian foods.

Cuy (guinea pig).

The three musketeers Molly Dolly, Crazy Gracie, and Philly Cheese.

Yummyyyy guinea pig.

We went to some ruins this morning with Omar and a few others that´s about an hour from Urubamba, but I don´t remember the name. It´s apparently a place that recognizes the moon, women, and nature.

A symbol of the moon carved into a stone.

On top of the moon.

Grace and I met some local girls and taught them Duck, Duck, Goose but called the game Vaca, Vaca, Pescado (Cow, Cow, Fish). And they taught us a game afterwards.
